When you postpone things which have to be done, it never happens. That’s why I thought of having it right away when I got time. A walk on Sunday afternoon, that too in the posh area of Mumbai, is a really different experience. I started off from home at 1.00pm afternoon. The sunlight was solid that my skin felt like frying pan.
I walked till the station and saw the booking office closed. I found that they shifted the office to new building. I stood in the line and got a ticket two-way ticket to church gate. I couldn’t find much crowd as it was a Sunday afternoon. I got a seat and looked out through the window as train passed stations.
Suddenly I saw train approaching a station and I saw sea on the station side. Without a second thought I got down in the station and saw the station name. It wasn’t church gate! It was Marine Line, the station before Church gate. I took the skywalk and left the station platform. I saw an official cricket match near and I took a tree shadow and watched the match. It was Mumbai cricket club. I felt so boring as the match advanced and so I left the play ground to reach the marine lines.
I should say, if you want to see cleanest area you should visit this southern most area. It was so cleanly maintained. I walked through the marine lines watching the people came down there to relax on the week end. The road too was clean and youngsters were driving vehicles so fast. I kept on walking till I saw the end of the marine lines. Only then do I realize that there isn’t any more Mumbai down south. I took a side way and walked west.
I saw a group of people with turban and suit dancing on the road. I realized that it was a pre marriage celebration procession only when I saw the groom on a horse. I found happiness on every ones face. I continued my walk till I saw INOX Theater in a shopping mall. I checked out the movies and did and window shopping inside the mall. I didn’t realize the time flow till I felt myself hungry. I saw next Poori center and had one Sev Poori and cane juice.
I continued my walk towards the west when I found branches of almost all the banks in India. That’s how I found out I was in Nariman point, the south most region of Mumbai. I walked a bit north and till I found the multitude stream flooding towards Gate way of India. I followed them, as I reached Gate way of India I found a very big crowd of which almost 95% of them were with camera or posing for a camera. The Taj hotel looked the same even after the 26/11 attack as they renovated the external area. I could see workers still on the renovation on old Taj whereas the new Taj stood there with its tallness hitting the sky.
I had to walk back to the Church Gate station so that I could return. On the way to the station I saw people playing cricket and other games in Shivaji Park. I could feel the smell of some successful people like Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh who did the hard work that lead them to what they are now.
As I reached the station I saw the display showing a Borivali fast leaving in less than one minute. I ran into the train and took a seat. I felt so tired realizing the fact that I was walking the past 5 hours as I saw my watch ticking 5.15pm.
